Valentine's Study Shows "Missionary," "Amazon" Surging Among Top Sex Positions
A global study of search data shows that traditional "missionary" sex is the most searched for sex position, followed by female-dominant "amazon." The three-year porn searches study was done by leading adult site xHamster with additional data on Google searches provided by SEMrush, an online visibility management tool.
"For Valentine's Day, we wanted to offer some actionable advice for lovers," said Alex Hawkins, Vice President of xHamster. "We see more and more consumers interested in equitable sexual practices, rather than one that favors men. We're particularly encouraged by the dramatic rise of interest in the "amazon" position, which gives women greater control."
▪ Among US Google searches, the most searched for sex positions were "Missionary" (#1), "Amazon" (#2), "Cowgirl" (#3), "Eiffel Tower" (#4) and "Doggy Style" (#5), followed by "Piledriver" (#6), Butterfly (#7), "Reverse Cowgirl (#8), "Spooning" (#9) and "Wheelbarrow" (#10).
▪ Among US porn users, the most searched for positions were "Missionary" (#1), "Cowgirl" (#2), "Doggy Style" (#3), ""Reverse Cowgirl" (#4), "Chair" (#5), "Amazon" (#6), "Scissors" (#7), "Cowboy" (#8), "Butterfly" (#9), and "Spooning" (#10).
Hawkins also notes that despite heavy rotation in porn, consumer interest in anal sex has fallen dramatically over the past three years.
"We are seeing a global decline in interest for more aggressive sex acts," says Hawkins. "This may have to do with a return to a more conservative culture, or merely a return to the mean after 50 Shades, but consumer interest in BDSM, anal sex and other fetish sex has flagged in the past few years."
The survey also looked at global searches for sex information, both through Google and on porn sites. Graphs and data below, and will appear on the xHamster blog on Valentine's Day.
